First thanks for the response. I mean when user registers, a link is sent to them. When they respond the db users field 'email verified' gets populated with true. Also I need to know where to intercept the registration process and inhibit the user from being automatically logged in. I need to manually 'unlock their account' because I need to create other application items before they are allowed to see their page.
